You keep calling it “just clothes”… but your nervous system knows better
What do you think about when you get dressed in the morning?
Are you quickly throwing on whatever is clean and fits?
Do you plan your outfit the night before and simply go with that flow?
Do you take a look in the closet in search of a color or fit that inspires you?
Are you thinking about who’s gonna be in the room and thus dress accordingly?
Whether you’re aware of it or not, what you choose to don on any given day is supporting you in some way.
Lately as I’m knee-deep in reinventing my business so it reflects my vision, I’ve noticed I’m reaching constantly for 2 categories of things: Bright colors and oversized pieces. I literally bought clothing in the same colors as my brand.
THE COLORS

My top color pick? I absolutely adore the Soft Sundae candy pink. For almost a decade I felt the need to make sure my wardrobe was saturated with unsaturated muted colors. Lots of black and cream. Navy blue and khaki.
And while I now appreciate having classic staples in those colors in my closet, I noticed that I yearned for a bit of color to express myself and how I feel. I told the story recently on my podcast about the older French guy looking at me in utter shock because I was wearing something colorful (in the 8eme of all places!).
In any case, these colors cheer me up and also keep me focused on my vision and goals but not in a serious productivity-obsessed-bro way, but in a way that feels light and aligned with no pressure.
What colors are you drawn to at the moment? And why? How do they make you feel? Are you actually wearing clothes in those colors? If not, try it out!
THE OVERSIZED-NESS
For the first time in my 46 years, I’ve gained weight. I’ve been the same 100 lbs since I was 13 and so this weight gain is truly messing with my mind. My instinct has been to accept my new body but in that journey I’ve been completely uninspired to find new styles and proportions for this new body.

Frustrating at best.
So to support this phase, I’ve got no problem covering up what I haven’t figured out how to show off – with oversized fits. Loose sweatshirts + Wide-legged pants are my jam. I style myself in a way that makes me still feel cute and still do a lil’ shimmy in the mirror once I’m all dressed even as I’m in the middle of figuring it all out.
And the most important thing about this for me is how dressing this way gives me space to love my new belly and thicker thighs even if I don’t know how best to style them yet. I’m great at styling, I honestly just haven’t given this part of me the energy yet. I’m at capacity at the moment. So no style tips needed here! I just need to spend time experimenting with my new bod.
How do you style yourself to support the condition and look and feel of your body?
DRESSING FOR THE ROOM
When I think about dressing to prepare for the room you’re about to show up in I think of a lovely past client who would purposefully adorn herself with jewelry with deep meanings very special to her as she went into rooms with powerful people. These items reminded her of who she is and why she’s in those rooms in the first place and so if and when she wavered or felt ill-at-ease, she would touch or remember her jewelry to keep focused and present in the room.
There’s so many ways to do this depending on the type of room you’re going in. I love a good sneaker moment when going to a place where I know people will be wearing heels to remind myself I don’t have to conform to what’s expected in the room in order to belong. I can be comfortable and still be cute and still be in the right place.
Another example is I love clashing patterns in a way that actually blends nicely. That sense of sartorial daring is often a convo starter and gets eyes on you in rooms where you desire to network.
How are you dressing for the room these days? Do you remember a time you showed up a lil different from everyone else and nailed it?
WHEN YOU’RE SELLING
You’re probably reading this because you’re a creative founder who has an energy-sensitivity that will have you hiding in your house for a week after you attended a live event, hell, even a virtual one.
And if that’s the case I’m wondering if you’ve ever thought of the items in your closet as having the ability to be supportive during those moments or periods when you’re launching [slash] sharing about a new offer.
Wearing blue to stay calm. Wearing natural fibers for the highest comfort when your nervous system’s limits are being tested. Wearing something flowy and loose instead of tight and constricting. Wearing one of your fave pieces you feel most confident in.
Like, babe. Your clothes can support you back.
A great place to start with this is to determine how you show up, what you tend to be like when the launch sh*t hits the fan so you can better prepare your wardrobe for the coming madness.
I put together the free Launch Alter Ego Quiz to help you decipher just that about yourself. So go take the quiz and find out your Launch Alter Ego that shows up when you get visible selling and your result (which provides lots of helpful tips –but not clothing tips) will help you plan for your best launch yet.
