Kleidi Jeen: [00:00:00] Coucou, welcome to Sundae Creative, where we're throwing outdated hustle culture into the trash and giving creative entrepreneurs the self care strategies they actually need to thrive. I'm Kleidi Jeen, creative wellness strategist, your fellow creative entrepreneur, and your go to for making sure your business doesn't burn you out before you get to enjoy your success.
I'm talking real deal self care here, okay? The kind where we're about balancing those big, bold, creative dreams with the energy and well being to actually sustain them. Because the real flex is a thriving . Business and a thriving you so grab your matcha, get comfy and let's get into it.
You're doing yet another launch to fill that membership. You're piecing together yet another capsule collection to keep your customers begging for more. You look at the numbers and you find the energy to get on the screen and shuck and jive to get some new [00:01:00] clients. Look, I am not a business coach, like not hardly, but what I do know is that if you're a creative and you're in business, you've got to make sure that how you serve up your creativity works with your energy.
And it's something that's fun. A little bit of a challenge, yes, but something that you're confident in delivering. We see people out there launching a certain way and succeeding, right? And we see them putting a certain type of product or service or art form out there. And we're convinced that we've got to do the same thing because, , it worked for them, didn't it?
But we first and foremost have to be real with ourselves about whether or not our business model is something we can sustain. Okay, let that sink in. In fact, in my own creative business, even when I launched creative projects that were successful and people were excited about them and I was excited about them, if the model wasn't right [00:02:00] for my energy, it popped at first, but then it fizzled out.
Case in point, I started an online magazine about the moon. It was called Moon Mag and it was a hit. It hit home with so many people and , I was collaborating at a level that really felt good and we were all so , excited about it and growth was inevitable. But when I became pregnant , and I was sick , with the first trimester of my pregnancy and I was overwhelmed by becoming a mother of two, , I had to let it go.
I had no choice. The subscription business model of constantly putting out new content every single month, it just wasn't sustainable for me. And , while we're here on my personal creative business journey, a close second to aligning your business model with your energy is also increasing your awareness of the fact that if you're in business at all, you have to have the capacity to market your business.
, speaking of self [00:03:00] care and nurture, , marketing is a form of nurture for your business. I'll say it again. Marketing is a form of nurture for your business. Without it, our businesses are stressed, overwhelmed, in survival mode, just like we are without nurture. And You know what? I like this.
I'm on to something here. , this is like really resonating for me. Putting it this way. This is really resonating. , marketing is like the daily self care for your biz. Yeah. And let's see, like the systems and the automation. These are kind of like the deeper self care. Hmm. I'm going to ponder on this self care applied to business situation a little bit more.
But anyway, back to you and how your business model, , the way you deliver your creativity, , you have to deliver it in the, in that way over and over again, right? To work out the kinks, to find the flow, to find what's working, what's not working . And making those little adjustments. So [00:04:00] look a little further down the line and determine as best you can, if you can sustain the business model that you are pondering putting out there or that , you've already started to put out there.
So here's some questions you can ask yourself. , are you comfortable with the intimacy of meeting one on one with coaching clients , and actually listening to them? For example, if you're considering one on one work, another one is, can you create a new product every week or every month? Is that exciting to you?
If you're considering like a subscription type model for your business. Another example question is, is writing and publishing a book or creating an online course, what you want to do. If you have to market those things or that thing consistently over and over again , in order to make a profit. Do you feel good exerting lots of energy for a period of time and then having long periods of rest?
, another question I can think [00:05:00] of is, are you a night owl? Does your business model align with that? You know, same for morning people. If you're a morning person, is your business sustainable in that way? How can your creative business integrate better into your home and family life? Like, can or should your partner have a role?
Can you share more about your business with your kids? , can you share or change up your responsibilities to make space for your creativity? What actually sparks your creativity? Like what gets it going? Are you doing it as self care to nurture yourself and your creativity? Questions like these will provide you with the insight you need to be able to spot those red flags and get more real with yourself and the way you're putting your creativity out there via your business model.
Creatives often tend to be dreamers, right? We are hopeful dreamers, so we can see the bright side beaming. And in that way, we can ignore the messages trying to come through from the shadow [00:06:00] side. So, hopefully these questions get you looking at that bigger picture, so that your creative business is thriving because you're better at honoring your energy, your creativity and the expectations that you put on yourself.
