Kleidi Jeen: [00:00:00] Coucou, welcome to Sundae Creative, where we're throwing outdated hustle culture in the trash and giving creative entrepreneurs the self care strategies they actually need to thrive.
I'm Kleidi Jeen, creative wellness strategist, your fellow creative entrepreneur, and your go to for making sure your business does not burn you out before you get to enjoy your success. I'm talking real deal self care. The kind where we're all about balancing big, bold, creative dreams with the energy and well being to sustain them.
Because the real flex is a thriving business and a thriving you. So go ahead, grab your matcha, get comfy, and let's get into it.
So, if you're new to launching or haven't successfully launched yet, one of the biggest things that could be catching you up is a lack of awareness or acceptance, , of how your energy works. A lot of times for introverts, for [00:01:00] those with ADHD and , for many folks, right?
We get super energized by the idea of launching our creative thing into the world, right? We actually get a lot of the . Foundational work done. And then what? Then it's time to show up. Get visible. Put ourselves out there. And then what happens? We lose momentum fast. And that rocket launched slows down and starts descending quicker than a deflated balloon.
And then you move on to something else. Let me know if this sounds familiar. Now, part of this is a mindset thing, right? Putting ourselves out there, especially when we haven't really done so before or haven't let our authentic selves shine before , or we have a negative experience around that in the past.
It can be a big thing to take on psychologically, right? And, and we can deal with that in another episode. Okay. , I do have , , some ideas , , and things to share about that. [00:02:00] But the other part of this is an energy management thing. So in this episode, I'm going to yap it up about some ways you can protect your energy so you can not only show up for your business, but you can stay with your business, managing it instead of it, managing you and taking over you and your energy, especially when you're going full speed ahead
so let's get into three things today that you can easily implement starting right the F now to protect your energy. And these are all things that come directly from my Sundae approach, my framework, which is in episode two, , of the podcast. And so, , this comes from my framework for creating personalized self care for my busy creatives out there, making their big ideas, a big reality.
, the first thing I want you to do, and I want you to start today, is to notice what your energy is like, how it ebbs and flows throughout the [00:03:00] day. Now, you can do this on a longer term scale, for example, observing how your energy flows over the week or over the course of a month, especially, when you also, as a woman, , integrate your, , menstrual cycle into the mix or even the quality of your energy during a particular season, right?
In winter, winter hibernation, anybody, , , but I want you to start with today with your day. And I bet you know the timeframes when you're most productive, don't you? You know that you can get the emails out from 12 to 2 or something like that. But do you know the timeframes when you are most desiring rest or downtime?
Do you know when you usually feel like you need to move around, take a walk, do a little exercise, a little stretch? Do you know when peak creativity time seems to always come around? I want you to, , ask yourself these questions, just pay attention, get [00:04:00] curious through the day, get acquainted with these different types of energy that are coming and going.
And, , maybe they're coming and going at similar times every day. , you observe this, let's say every day over the course of seven days and just getting really curious because instead of ignoring these cues, , I invite you to now align , your, routines, , your business life and your personal life, your routines and your practices, along with these times of day where your energy is doing whatever it's doing so that eventually you're no longer working against your energetic rhythm.
You feeling me?
Awareness is the name of the game. I believe in previous episodes we talked about self awareness, , and when you start to open up to understanding yourself more deeply, a whole bunch of other things come into your awareness zone, right? And so with this point, I want you to point that awareness and awareness is simply [00:05:00] about getting curious and observing yourself without judgment.
Okay, that's what I mean when I say awareness. I want you to point that awareness towards the things you're doing in your workday. Is, , is any of that busy work, , if your goal is to make a sale, then do you need to create yet another online course or do you actually need to market or launch the one you already have published and ready to roll right now?
If your desire is to write a book, do you need to spruce up that lead magnet right now or do you need to outline your next chapter? See, we can so convincingly fool ourselves about the importance of any such activity that we're doing because we're so dang on, good at procrastinating and sabotaging ourselves that we can't even detect it.
Right? And what is this doing? It's eating at our energy reserves double time, ? Because it's not even aligned with that big picture intention. Because it takes energy to, to fool yourself. And , you're [00:06:00] using up that time and that energy on tasks that aren't leading you to that ultimate goal or vision.
So start noticing, start becoming aware of what actions aren't aligned with your goals and are big time energy leaks. Okay, so I want you , to do that as number two. That awareness piece. And the last thing, and this thing is actually really complicated, honestly. So instead of an action, right? So the first two were kind of actions.
The first thing you're going to notice your energy each day for seven days at least. And the next thing is you're going to increase your awareness around your business activities and determine whether or not they're actually leading you to where you want to go. But
the last thing I'm going to give you is food for thought that might end up shifting your thinking on this. Okay. So I work very often one on one with my clients on this one. And even a lot of my customers and students who I've never met are grappling with this as well. And this one is [00:07:00] for my fellow recovering people pleasers.
And so, it's about saying yes when you really want to or need to say no. And people pleasing comes in many different tones. It can be bright eyed and bushy tailed or it can be hell incarnate. But what it comes down to is this. manipulation. Let that sink in. If we're saying yes to people when we really don't mean it, we're manipulating the situation.
We're lying to them. We're lying to ourselves. And that lie is triggered by the need to feel loved, the need to feel a sense of belonging. And so at its core, I just want to put out there this little caveat. At its core, , there's nothing wrong with people pleasing. There's A level of people pleasing that happens among us as humans so that we can feel belonging and a sense of acceptance in whatever group that we belong to.
So I don't [00:08:00] want you to think of people pleasing in general as this twisted and awful thing. But when we start to let people pleasing, Make decisions in our lives and make decisions that actually also block us from taking actions we need towards realizing our goals , and, , self realization in general.
That's where people pleasing, , we need to reign it in some. Okay. So I just want to put that caveat out there. But , when we're, when we are really deep into people pleasing, we're manipulating the situation. We're lying to the people we're in relation with and , , we're lying to ourselves.
And that lie is triggered by the need to feel loved and the need to feel a sense of belonging. And honey, in this hyper individualistic society, we are all affected by that need at some level. But what I want you to know right now. Is that saying yes to things that you want to say no to is [00:09:00] actually getting you further away from that sense of acceptance and belonging and just feeling right in your own skin and not so awkward.
Part of authentic expression is enacting those boundaries that keep you authentically you , that ensure that your energy is going towards what matters to you and not towards trying to win people over in the most ineffective way possible because you won't ever find your tribe in this way. You'll always be surrounded by people who by default since you manipulated them with the false Yes, you'll be surrounded by people who don't honor the real you and if that isn't an energy drain I don't know what is So this is a big one Like I said, so I just want you to start pondering this food for thought right food for thought on saying Yes, when we really mean no So, there you have it, my dear Sundae creatives, three ways to protect your energy, and these all come from the [00:10:00] last three parts, the DAE of my Sundae approach.
The first one was E, about energetic pacing. The second one The D was the A in Sundae, which is about aligned action taking, and the D was about developing authentic connections, the D of my Sundae approach. So anyway, I hope you enjoyed with this one. I really enjoyed sharing it with you. And that, my friends, takes us to the end of the episode.
